The Engineer I, Enterprise OSP Engineering supports the planning, design, and implementation of outside plant (OSP) infrastructure required to deliver fiber connectivity to enterprise and commercial customers. This entry-level engineering role assists with the development of fiber routes, customer lateral designs, construction plans, engineering documentation, field surveys, and other technical activities supporting enterprise service delivery.
The role works cross-functionally with Enterprise Sales, Network Engineering, Construction, Permitting, Operations, contractors, utilities, and other stakeholders to help ensure enterprise fiber projects are designed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with Ezee Fiber engineering standards.
The ideal candidate has a foundational understanding of fiber optic networks and OSP design principles, strong attention to detail, and an interest in developing technical expertise in enterprise fiber network engineering.
Enterprise OSP Design & Engineering
• Assist in the design and engineering of OSP fiber infrastructure supporting enterprise and commercial customer connections.
• Develop and update fiber routes, customer lateral designs, service connection paths, and other OSP engineering documentation using GIS, CAD, and fiber network design platforms.
• Support the evaluation of existing network infrastructure to determine feasible routes for connecting enterprise customer locations.
• Assist with identifying appropriate fiber paths, splice locations, handholes, conduit routes, poles, and other OSP infrastructure required for enterprise service delivery.
• Support engineering activities associated with new customer connections, network extensions, relocations, upgrades, and capacity requirements.
• Assist in developing construction-ready engineering packages, drawings, and specifications.
Field Engineering & Site Assessments
• Support field data collection activities, including site surveys, route walks, pole assessments, underground infrastructure assessments, and customer location reviews.
• Verify existing field conditions against engineering records, GIS data, utility maps, and construction documentation.
• Document field conditions and identify potential design conflicts, constructability concerns, or infrastructure limitations.
• Assist with determining potential entrance routes and connectivity paths between Ezee Fiber's network and enterprise customer locations.
Construction & Project Support
• Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including design drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), route maps, redlines, as-builts, and project records.
• Coordinate with Construction, Permitting, Operations, contractors, utilities, and other stakeholders to support accurate and timely execution of enterprise fiber projects.
• Review construction prints, utility information, permits, and municipal right-of-way requirements applicable to assigned projects.
• Track engineering deliverables and project milestones and escalate potential design or schedule issues to senior engineering team members.
• Provide technical support during construction and assist with resolving field questions or design discrepancies.
• Support post-construction validation to confirm completed infrastructure aligns with approved engineering designs.
Engineering Standards & Compliance
• Ensure assigned designs and engineering documentation comply with Ezee Fiber standards, customer requirements, applicable municipal requirements, and industry best practices.
• Support compliance with applicable NESC, NEC, utility, right-of-way, and local construction requirements.
• Maintain accurate engineering records and ensure design changes and field modifications are properly documented.
• Participate in engineering reviews and incorporate feedback from senior engineers and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Support continuous improvement of enterprise OSP engineering processes, documentation, and design standards.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Construction Management, GIS, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Minimum of 1–2 years of relevant telecommunications, fiber, OSP engineering, construction, GIS, or related experience preferred.
• Relevant internship or cooperative education experience may be considered.
• Exposure to fiber optic network design, telecommunications infrastructure, or enterprise connectivity is preferred.
Skills and Competencies
• Foundational understanding of OSP principles, including aerial, underground, conduit, handhole, and fiber distribution systems.
• Basic knowledge of GIS, CAD, or fiber network design tools such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, QGIS, 3-GIS, or similar platforms.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, utility maps, engineering plans, and network documentation.
• Basic understanding of fiber optic network architecture, routing, splicing, and connectivity.
• Familiarity with permitting processes, municipal rights-of-way, and utility coordination preferred.
• Basic understanding of NESC, NEC, and applicable utility construction standards preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate engineering documentation.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Enterprise Sales, Construction, Permitting, Operations, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel locally as business needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting FTTH, FTTB, enterprise fiber, metro fiber, or telecommunications network deployments.
• Exposure to enterprise or commercial fiber service delivery.
• Experience with fiber management systems, GIS databases, or telecommunications engineering platforms.
• Familiarity with customer lateral design, building entrances, fiber route selection, and network extensions.
• Understanding of OSP construction methods and basic constructability considerations.
Valid Driver's License

While performing the duties of the job, the associate is required on a daily basis to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices.
